Social Security

Find out how the French social security system works, including how to see a doctor.

If you are an international student in France, you can register for social security coverage through the Ameli website, which is the online portal of the French health insurance system. Here's how you can do it:

1. Gather Necessary Documents:

  • Before you start the registration process on the Ameli website, make sure you have the following documents:

    • Passport or national identity card.

    • Proof of enrollment in an educational institution in France.

    • Proof of address in France (e.g., rental contract, utility bills).

2. Visit the Ameli Website:

3. Create an Account:

  • If you don't already have an Ameli account, you will need to create one. Look for an option like "Créer un compte" (Create an account) and follow the registration process. You may need to provide your personal information and contact details.

4. Log In to Your Account:

  • Once you have an Ameli account, log in using your username and password.

5. Start the Registration Process:

  • Look for a section related to international students or "Étudiants étrangers" on the Ameli website. This section should provide information on how to register for social security as an international student.

6. Fill Out the Online Application:

  • Complete the online application form with your personal information, enrollment details, and any other required information.

7. Upload Required Documents:

  • You may be asked to upload scanned copies of your passport, proof of enrollment, and proof of address in France. Make sure you have these documents ready for uploading.

8. Review and Submit Your Application:

  • Double-check all the information you provided, and then submit your application through the Ameli portal.

9. Wait for Confirmation:

  • After submitting your application, you should receive a confirmation of your registration for social security coverage. This may include your social security number (numéro de sécurité sociale) and further instructions.

10. Access Healthcare Services: - Once you have your social security coverage confirmed, you can use your Carte Vitale to access healthcare services and benefits in France.

Remember that the process and requirements may vary depending on your specific situation and the policies in place at the time of your registration. If you encounter any difficulties during the registration process, you can contact the Ameli customer service for assistance or consult student services for guidance
